Lioness in ink by Alison Nicholls

Lioness in Ink

After 10 minutes, when I hadn’t finished this Lioness in ink, I decided to just keep going for another 10 minutes because I thought she was worth finishing.

When I look at this lioness, I’m amazed that I was able to confidently draw her directly in ink without screwing the whole thing up! Reminding myself that its just a drawing on a piece of paper (yupo actually) helps a lot. But its evidence of how far I think I’ve come in the last couple of years and particularly since I started my daily sketches.

The subject matter for my daily sketches are photos by my husband, Nigel. They are all for sale at my Etsy store, with 50% of the purchase price donated to various African conservation organizations. The 10-minute sketches are $60 and the 20-minute sketches are $80, with free shipping in the US (and very reasonable shipping elsewhere in the world!).
Enjoy!

I’m roaring ahead with plans for extra conservation donations for World Lion Day!
And I’m trumpeting my plans for World Elephant Day on August 12!

So here is my plan..
from August 8 until the end of August 12, if you purchase any painting, field sketch or limited edition reproduction of a Lion (or Lioness) or Elephant, I will donate 40% of the sale price to African Conservation organizations.

The donation will go to either the African People & Wildlife Fund (APW) in Tanzania or the Painted Dog Research Trust in Zimbabwe, depending on the artwork and where my inspiration for the piece came from.

Just to give you some ideas, here are a few pieces you might like…

Lines of a Lioness – Original Acrylic by Artist Alison Nicholls

Image

Lines of a Lioness                                                               acrylic 13×13″ by Alison Nicholls

I love to sketch lionesses. They have such lithe, athletic lines. So I decided to use lines in my painting too. Multiple lines of blue create the outline of her neck and shoulders, mirrored by stronger lines of blue in the sky.

During my recent trip to southern Africa I was lucky enough to see and sketch more lionesses. I have some lovely simple line drawings which may turn into paintings full of lines too!

Lines of a Lioness is available for sale. Please visit my Original Paintings website page for details.

A donation is made towards conservation in Africa from every sale.

Until next time…
